Gumbo Limbo Pottery is a pottery gallery and studio in Kendall offering classes on the potter's wheel or in hand building. We have kids clay classes and adult classes scheduled during the day and in the evenings. Groups, couples, or individuals welcome and can be scheduled at your convenience. You can also shop for local, handmade ceramic art in our gallery featuring work from 6 Miami artists specializing in stoneware, porcelain, raku, earthenware, and more.

The Wonderful World of Slabs with Puchi

 

The Wonderful World of Slabs
with Puchi Noriega

10am to 5pm
(with 1 hour break for lunch)

From a basic cube and cylinder to a freeform sculptural piece, participants will learn the basic techniques to accomplish a diverse assortment of pieces in this one-day workshop with local artist Puchi Noriega. The workshop will begin with a demonstration and then students will choose their project according to their skill level. All levels welcome. 

Students are welcome to explore for project inspiration ahead of time or decide on an idea for their project at the workshop.

Price includes clay and bisque firing of pieces. Students are welcome to use our studio tools or bring their own if they prefer. Pieces will be hollowed out and left for drying and bisque firing at Gumbo Limbo Pottery.

Participants can pick up their bisque-fired pieces approximately 3 weeks after the workshop. Students who wish to glaze their sculptures can come in October 1st from 10am to 3pm for an additional fee of $20 which covers the cost of glaze and the second firing. Students enrolled in the Sept/Oct 6-week session of classes at Gumbo Limbo Pottery can glaze their sculptures during glaze week of their regular class session at no additional charge.

 

About the artist: International artist, Puchi Noriega was born in Peru and now lives in Miami where she works in her home studio. Her lifelong relationship with art started at the age of three in her family’s ceramic studio and she "doesn't remember ever wanting to be anything other than an artist."

Puchi’s award-winning work is in many private and public collections. She has given art classes and workshops at various art schools as well as institutions in Peru, Canada, Costa Rica, and the US.
