Gumbo Limbo Pottery is a pottery gallery and studio in Kendall offering classes on the potter's wheel or in hand building. We have kids clay classes and adult classes scheduled during the day and in the evenings. Groups, couples, or individuals welcome and can be scheduled at your convenience. You can also shop for local, handmade ceramic art in our gallery featuring work from 6 Miami artists specializing in stoneware, porcelain, raku, earthenware, and more.

Kiln Firing Service

If you work in clay elsewhere and need your pieces fired, Gumbo Limbo Pottery can fire them for you.  Our Skutt KM1027 can can accommodate pieces up to 23" high and 21" wide. You can rent a full or partial kiln or fire individual pieces. 

*Extra fees may apply for extremely small, large, or delicate pieces or those which require special handling. Fees are for standard cone firing.  Extended length ramp/hold firings are available. Inquire for rates. 

Instructions and Policies

Client must notify Gumbo Limbo Pottery of the type of clay and glaze being fired in order to assure it is fired to the proper cone (temperature) and to assure that no hazardous materials are being fired. If you do not know this information, please bring the packaging and/or containers from the clay and glazes used. Bottoms of pieces must be free of glaze or additional stilting charges of $0.50-2.00 per piece may apply. Client assumes responsibility for damage to kiln or kiln furniture due to running glaze or mis-identified clay. Client agrees to pay for cleanup or replacement costs as follows: Cleanup of minor melting or glaze drips $5. Stilt replacement is $1.50 each. For extensive damage, cost for replacement of half shelf is $35 and full shelf is $55. 

All firing fees must be prepaid. Work will typically be ready for pick up within one week of drop off. Work must be completely dry before it is fired; firing of damp work will be delayed until the piece is dry. We will email, text, or call when the work is ready to be picked up. Items must be picked up within 10 days of completion or storage fees may apply. Items not collected within 30 days will be considered abandoned and will be disposed of. 

Firing service fees are non-refundable. Fees include careful loading, unloading, and firing of your pieces. Gumbo Limbo Pottery and our staff will handle your work with the utmost care, however, we are not responsible for breakage or unexpected results.
